Pedro Nuno says Portugal would have been ‘much better’ if critics had tied the results

This Thursday, the Secretary General of the PS opined that Portugal would be “much better off” if the politicians who criticize TAP achieved the same results that the company began to achieve while he was Minister of Infrastructure.

“We are talking about a company that was in a dead end, a company that, when I took over as minister, was suffering losses of about 100 million euros, and we left the company healthy, making a profit. If everything else is the politicians who are going: If we achieved these results, we would be much better off in Portugal,” stressed Pedro Nuno Santos on the sidelines of the initiative in Ilhavo, Aveiro district.

This Thursday, the new Socialist leader confirmed that the injection of capital into TAP was a successful process, saying that the government inherited a company that was shut down and was making losses and is now making a profit.

“We always complain about companies that perform poorly. This is a company that was left to make a profit, which is healthy and breaking records,” he said during a visit to Motofil in Ilyawu.

In this way, the Socialist General Secretary responded to statements by the leader of the PSD, who accused him of taking a “light approach to public affairs” due to the position taken by TAP in challenging the lawsuit brought by the former president of the company.

At a press conference on Wednesday, PSD Vice President Miguel Pinto Luz said he was “surprised” to read TAP’s response to the former executive president’s (CEO) lawsuit, in which one of the allegations is that Cristina Ourmier-Widener “never was not an employee of the company.”

When asked by journalists, Pedro Nuno refused to comment on the arguments of both sides of the dispute, adding only that this is a successful process.

Former TAP executive president Cristina Hourmier-Widener was fired for cause in April 2023 following a controversial half-million euro compensation to former administrator Alexandra Reis that led to the dismissal of then infrastructure minister Pedro Nuno Santos. and its Secretary of State Hugo Mendes, as well as the creation of a parliamentary commission to investigate the activities of the airline’s management.
