Chegi President Andre Ventura said this Friday that Pedro Nuno Santos should apologize to the Portuguese for the way he managed the TAP dossier and called on him to take full responsibility.
Speaking to reporters in Braga, on the sidelines of a meeting with the leadership of the Minho Business Association, Ventura also said that it seemed “obvious” to him that there was an alleged illegality in the permission granted to the former executive president of TAP to accumulate functions in other companies.
“Pedro Nuno Santos authorized an accumulation that, based on the information we have received, would be illegal, and therefore he cannot but bear responsibility for it. He cannot claim ignorance and should apologize to the Portuguese because, most likely, “The compensation we will have to pay and the legal mess the state has gotten itself into is his responsibility,” he said.
Given that the accumulation of functions represents an “obvious conflict of interest”, Andre Ventura stressed that the authorization reveals a “huge lack of common sense and political acumen”, as well as the unpreparedness of Pedro Nuno Santos to become prime minister.
“It seems clear to me that there is lawlessness here,” he stressed, calling on Pedro Nuno Santos to take responsibility for this process.
This Friday morning in Matosinhos, PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos took full political responsibility for what happened in TAP, the file he supervised as Minister of Infrastructure.
“I take full responsibility in relation to TAP (…) What is really important in terms of political responsibility is that I, as a minister, take political responsibility for everything that was done in TAP, and that what really matters. ” He said.
In response to a question from journalists about the newspaper’s news, SOL reported this Friday that Pedro Nuno Santos accepted the conditions of former TAP CEO Cristina Ourmier-Widener to retain functions in other companies, and that this was stipulated in the manager’s contract. The Socialist leader emphasized that the contract was concluded with the legal teams of both parties.
“The contract was concluded with the legal departments of both the previous CEO and with TAP, the legal department of TAP. It is important that we know about this,” he emphasized.
TAP’s former executive president was sacked for cause in April 2023 following a controversial half-million-euro compensation to former administrator Alexandra Reis, which led to the dismissal of then infrastructure minister Pedro Nuno Santos and his secretary of state Hugo Mendes and the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the airline’s management.
