CCPJ wants to reveal sanctions applied to journalists

This Sunday, the President of the Commission for Professional Cards of Journalists said that the law needs to be changed so that administrative offenses can be reported to journalists, so that the public is aware of the regulation of the profession.

“I appeal to the legislator: the law does not allow us to disclose information about administrative offenses only after a final decision has been made, and we need to make the information public so that people know about it,” Licinia Girao said during the debate on “Media Regulation” on 5 th Congress. The Congress of Journalists, which ends this Sunday in Lisbon.

The person in charge reported that among the main problems is the disrespect of journalists for the incompatibility of the profession (journalists are prohibited from advertising products, marketing, consulting, etc.), and there have also been many cases of administrative offenses and even revocation of licenses (in addition to refusal of ownership and non-renewal) , but which are unknown because they usually go to trial and can only be disclosed after the trial is over.
