The former leader of the CDS-PP, Cecilia Meireles, this Sunday accused the current Secretary General of the PS of being “overworked” and that in recent years he has already chosen which sector to support through the PRR, the “client economy of the state”.
Speaking at the convention of the Democratic Alternative (the coalition that unites the PSD, CDS-PP and PPM in the March 10 legislative elections), the former MP and Secretary of State for Tourism called for a healthy vote.
“If we want change, then we know very well that after all the calculations, considering all the scenarios, there is one thing that cannot be denied. In Portugal there are only two people who can be prime minister: one of them is more of the same, one is recycled, the other is here in this room, the one who wants to change votes for AD,” he said, meaning Luisa Montenegro.
Cecilia Meireles, who by her own choice is not on the list of candidates for parliament from the AD, criticized the already announced intention of the PS leader, if he becomes prime minister, to surgically select the sectors of the economy that need to be supported.
“So what you can say is that the economic problem in Portugal is that companies have received too much and indiscriminate support?” he criticized.
The former MP believed that “the PS had already chosen a strategic sector to support” when it allocated 70% of the Recovery and Resilience Plan funds to the state.
“This is a sector of companies that work for the state and are its clients, this is a clientele economy, and it is not strategic,” he said.
Cecilia Meireles also recalled the episode regarding the payment of compensation to former TAP manager Alexandra Reis, which then-Infrastructure Minister Pedro Nuno Santos initially did not remember authorizing.
“In any country in the world, this minister would be fired for lack of political responsibility; in Portugal he is a candidate for prime minister. The people will judge,” he called.
In the field of culture, Maestro Rui Massena called for the strengthening of the public budget for the sector, as well as for it to be balanced with more conditions for private companies to finance culture.
“We really have to create an absolutely explosive patronage law, companies have to want to sponsor a ballet or a concert,” he said in a statement that was supported by former culture minister Francisco José Viegas.
The former ruler believed that “it is important that in this new legislature the door is opened for a patronage law that favors authors, companies, negotiations between them and the public, with real and tangible benefits.”
The two criticized, as former CDS-PP leader Paulo Portas had already done, the “forgetfulness of the government” at the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luis de Camões, which Viegas even classified as a “burlesque comedy”.
In the field of education, the congress featured student leader Gabriela Cabillas (who will be on the AD list for Porto) and researcher Alexandre Homem Cristo (for Lisbon), who criticized the turbulent period in the sector and reaffirmed the coalition’s position. obligation to return frozen working time for teachers.
