The only member of the Liberal Initiative in the Parliament of Madeira said this Friday that he will decide on the direction of the vote only after analyzing the texts of the votes of no confidence by the PS and Chegi on the government of the autonomous region.
“As for the votes of no confidence, we must read them, analyze them and vote in good faith on the text of the proposals,” Nuno Morna said.
PS/Madeira, the largest opposition party in the Madeira parliament (holding 11 of the hemisphere’s 47 seats), announced on Thursday a vote of no confidence in the regional government of Madeira (PSD/CDS), led by Miguel. Albuquerque, which was accused of suspected corruption, among other crimes.
This Friday, Chega/Madeira also confirmed that it will submit a vote of no confidence in the government.
Nuno Morna also returned to defend the dismissal of Miguel Albuquerque following his indictment, emphasizing that he is not an ordinary citizen, but the “head” of the Madeira government.
“Miguel Albuquerque has no conditions to continue working in government. There are no political or ethical conditions,” he emphasized.
The head of the regional government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, has been named as a defendant in an investigation into allegations of corruption, abuse of power, malfeasance, attacks on the rule of law and other crimes.
The case also involves two businessmen and the mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, three of whom were detained in a police operation launched on Wednesday in Madeira, the Azores and several cities on the continent.
The chairman of the regional government publicly stated that he would not resign, recognizing the lifting of the immunity he enjoys as a member of the State Council.
Following this situation, the Party of Animals and Nature (PAN), which had signed a parliamentary protection agreement with the PSD/CDS to secure an absolute majority in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira (ALM), considered that Albuquerque no longer had the conditions to lead the Madeira executive and defended replacing her, without intending to overthrow the regional government.
