Mortagua believes BE will elect more deputies, but does not set any goals

BE coordinator Mariana Mortagua expressed this Friday her belief that the party will grow and have more deputies in the next legislative elections, but did not quantify this electoral goal.

“On March 10, we are going to grow in the legislature, we are going to elect more deputies, more women deputies and, above all, we are going to be decisive. There is no absolute majority, there is a majority to change the country. and turn the page with the Left Bloc,” he said.

Mariana Mortagua spoke to reporters after presenting the list of parliamentary candidates for the Lisbon constituency, accompanied by representative Catia Dominguez and several candidates.

The leader of the bloc said that the party wants to achieve the “best possible result,” but did not set specific goals, noting that “only voters can say about this strength.”

“I think that I should not just indicate the number of votes, but also offer concrete proposals to voters,” he said.

In the last legislative elections in 2022, BE elected five deputies, two of whom were from the Lisbon Circle.

Mariana Mortagua said that the goal of the next vote “is to reduce revenues, the goal is to open emergency hospitals, to make medical careers, and it is for this majority, with very specific proposals, that we are going to elect deputies.”

“This is our goal: to change living conditions in Portugal, to do something that has never been done before, to correct the mistakes of the absolute majority, to dismantle the wreckage of what is left of the school, of healthcare,” he said. out.

The BE Coordinator noted that “the prospects for the Bloc are to grow, to have more MPs, and to have MPs who will allow us to create a majority to approve proposals, lower rents, hire doctors, solve the problem of public schools, raise wages.” .

“We want commitment, we are ready to commit to creating this majority. It is for this, and not for anything else, that deputies elected by the Bloc are needed. The more power the Bloc has, the stronger these obligations will be, the stronger these proposals will be,” he emphasized.

Mortagua emphasized that this list is composed of “competent people, activists in various fields, demanding people” and noted that its representative is “a teacher who has dedicated himself not only to public schools, but also to the trade union problems that have affected teachers in recent years.” . In recent years”.

“We defend the restoration and reassignment of teachers because the law requires it and it is fair, but we want more, we want to protect public schools. We can no longer have a public school where students remain. without classes because there are not enough teachers in school, we need to have teachers again and for the life of a teacher to be the life that people want, that they desire, that they are looking for,” he stressed.

Upon arrival at the court, the BE delegation was approached by members of the striking judicial workers’ union.

“Justice workers have long been subject to unfair treatment in terms of working conditions. Instability and low wages are among the conditions that make justice so difficult, slow and take so long,” lamented Mariana Mortagua, emphasizing the party’s commitment to “respect for your career, for your working conditions.”
