PS in the Azores calls for the victory of freedom and democracy over those who want to attack these values

The PS candidate for the presidency of the Azores government in the regional legislative elections, Vasco Cordeiro, called this Monday for the mobilization of voters for the great victory of freedom and democracy over those who want to attack these values.

“(…) I call on you to mobilize so that on February 4th the vote for the Socialist Party will be a great victory for freedom, democracy, respect and our autonomy in the face of those who want, in secret, to attack these values,” said Vasco Cordeiro in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira, where he remembered the island that “was so assertive in the fight for freedom, with determination, with determination.”

Vasco Cordeiro, director of the San Miguel constituency list and compensation, also stressed “the need to reaffirm transparency and truth in this electoral campaign,” noting that the PS “represents itself in these elections without hiding any of its candidates.”

“This is how the SDP understands its partners,” he said.

Vasco Cordeiro also warned that “there is something so well hidden in this election campaign” and that it is important for everyone to “keep this in mind when they go to vote.”

“This is not a coalition of three parties, it is a coalition of four parties, which includes Chega,” he said.

Following the meeting in TERINOV, the candidate highlighted the PS governments’ commitment to “innovation, entrepreneurship, science and technology”, stressing that this area is “undervalued in its importance” by the island’s executive.

According to Vasco Cordeiro, it is necessary to return this territory to exploitation “in the interests of resettling the population and creating qualified jobs.”

The President of the Republic has decided to dissolve the Parliament of the Azores and call early elections for next Sunday, February 4, after this year’s budget is announced. Eleven candidates are vying for the regional legislatures, with 57 seats in the hemicycle: PSD/CDS-PP/PPM (the coalition that currently governs the region), ADN, CDU (PCP/PEV), PAN, Alternative 21 (MPT /PPM) Alliance), Illinois, Chega, Belgium, PS, JPP and Livre.

In 2020, the PS won but lost its absolute majority, giving rise to a right-wing post-election coalition supported by a majority of 29 MPs after signing agreements on parliamentary influence with Chega and IL (which violated it in 2023). PS, BE and PAN had a total of 28 mandates.
