Ventura says Chega will not submit to two parties in the system

Chegi leader André Ventura said this Wednesday that there is an obsession with the party between the national PS and the PS/Açores and assured that it will not submit to the two parties in the system.

“Every day more debauchery, more rot, more friendliness enters our house. Chega will not lean towards the two parties of the system: either there will be a regional and national government against corruption, against friendliness, against clientelism, or there will be no government,” warned Andre Ventura.

President Chegi spoke to reporters at the agricultural cooperative in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo on the island of São Miguel, where he is campaigning for regional legislative elections in the Azores.

When asked about the poll on this vote from the Portuguese Catholic University for RTP, Antena 1 and Público, which indicates an advantage for the PS (39%), while the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition receives 36% of the vote and Chega reaches 9%. , Ventura considered that the region is “dominated by three parties”: PSD, PS and Chega, and the decision is made between the three.

Regarding the call of PS/Açores leader and regional executive presidential candidate Vasco Cordeiro for the need to “mobilize forces to prevent Chega” from ruling the archipelago or taking part in the governance of the region, André Ventura argued that the PS “He is defending himself.”

“The PS fears that it knows that Chega will be a firm party in the fight against corruption, will be a firm party in the fight against the appointments of relatives and friends, and therefore the PS is fighting for its survival,” he said. hence the obsession with which PS is at the national and regional level [que] he only talks about Chege, all the time, all the time,” he said.

According to Andre Ventura, despite the fact that the PS party is in first place in the poll, “it will be useless if the majority is on the right.”

Regarding Chega’s possible demands to join a future right-wing regional government, Andre Ventura said the party is not demanding anything without seeing results, once again rejecting parliamentary agreements.

“I don’t understand how there can be a government agreement without Chegi’s presence in the government,” he repeated.

Regarding the presence of the PSD national leader on election night in the Azores, President Chegi said that Luis Montenegro “prefers to come to the party, with streamers and champagne,” noting that in the regions of Madeira, “things did not go very well.”

Chega/Azores leader José Pacheco, head of the San Miguel list and compensation circles, defended Lusa’s agricultural diversification.

In the case of milk production, José Pacheco warned that “those who work are hostage to distribution, and distribution is also holding the industry hostage”, given that “farmers have already realized that they have begun to reduce production and concentrate on meat”, that ” smart bet.”

An Azores election poll carried out by the Portuguese University for RTP, Antena 1 and Público, published on Tuesday evening, shows an advantage for the PS (39%), while the PSD/CDS-PP/Público coalition is gaining the advantage. 36% of voting intentions.

Chega reaches 9%, and BE 3%. IL, CDU, PAN each receive 2% of the votes. In this poll, Livre and JPP have 1% voting intentions, while ADN collects less than 1%.

The target universe consists of people aged 18 years and over, registered and residing in the archipelago. 2297 valid surveys were received from residents of the islands of São Miguel and Terceira.

According to Público, the maximum margin of error associated with a random sample of 2,297 respondents is 2%, with a confidence level of 95%.

The President of the Republic has decided to dissolve the Parliament of the Azores and call early elections for next Sunday, after this year’s budget is announced.

Eleven candidates are vying for the regional legislatures, with 57 seats in the hemicycle: PSD/CDS-PP/PPM (the coalition that currently governs the region), ADN, CDU (PCP/PEV), PAN, Alternative 21 (MPT /PPM) Alliance), Illinois, Chega, Belgium, PS, JPP and Livre.

In 2020, the PS won but lost its absolute majority, giving rise to a right-wing post-election coalition supported by a majority of 29 MPs after signing agreements on parliamentary influence with Chega and IL (which violated it in 2023). PS, BE and PAN had a total of 28 mandates.
