The head of the PS list in the legislative elections of the Évora district, Luis Díaz, announced this Wednesday that he has suspended his mandate as president of the Chamber of Vendas Novas.
In his statement, the mayor has so far indicated that the suspension, automatic and caused by a legal imperative, has been in effect since last Friday, the day on which the PS handed over the lists of candidates to the court of Évora.
Last week, in a statement to the Lusa agency, Luis Díaz said that he would resign as president of the municipality, but this Wednesday the former mayor explained that the legal figure that, in the end, automatically applies is removal.
“After the party analyzed the latest legislation, it was established that the legal principle provided for an automatic and immediate suspension from the moment the lists were submitted to the court until the date of the elections,” explained Luis Díaz Luza.
Until now, the president of the municipality, serving his third and last term in Vendas Novas, has been replaced in this post by Valentino Salgado Cunha, who was vice president, and the first deputy candidate for the chamber on the socialist list, Susana Gonçalves, becomes councilor.
“This end of the cycle in the City Council will never force me to leave my land,” Luis Díaz promised, stressing that the “new challenge” if he is elected to the Assembly of the Republic “will allow him to continue to serve Vendas Novas.” “.
Luis Díaz, 40 years old, senior technician in modern languages and literature, with a master’s degree in information management and a master’s degree in public policy and projects, has also been president of the District Federation of PS Évora since March 2020. .
In the circle in which three deputies are elected, the legislature, which is now ending, includes two PS parliamentarians: Luis Capulas Santos, former Minister of Agriculture, and Norberto Patiño, former mayor of Portela, with the PSD in charge of another MP, a lawyer Sonia Ramos (who heads the AD list in this new electoral law).
