Armando Souza became the hero of the AF Porto U-10 match between Lagares and Lixa. He was the referee of the match and focused all his attention on it after comforting the players of the losing team at the end of the match.
“There was a child there, the one in the photo, who, as I understood at some point, was unwell. My heart was beating fast and I asked him to leave. At the end of the game, I picked it up and said, “You play a lot.” Other children also came up to me and said they were sad. I told them that they still have games and that they are here to have fun and that it doesn’t always work out well.”
Armando Sousa from Lusada. He is 42 years old and has been a referee for 15 years. Every weekend he officiates Associação de Futebol do Porto matches from under 6 to seniors.
“Children touch me a lot. Not everyone will be Ronaldo and you need to know how to deal with that age. For example, we were taught not to show cards because this might be the last game of this child.”
The game ended with Lagares winning 4-2.
