The premises of the Asperger Syndrome Association in Benfica were vandalized with an axe.

The outdoor premises of the Portuguese Asperger’s Syndrome Association (APSA) in Benfica, Lisbon, were vandalized in a “shocking way”, the person in charge of the organization told Lusa this Friday.

“We have been here for 11 years and nothing has happened to us, but on the night from Wednesday to Thursday the facility was destroyed with an axe. The acts targeted five buildings: two wooden and three stone. vandalism,” said Virginia Monteiro, president of APSA and general director of the Casa Grande institution in Benfica, to Luca Piedade.

According to the person in charge, CCTV cameras installed in the garden of Casa Grande recorded acts of vandalism, which had already been reported to Carnide PSP.

APSA, a private social solidarity institution, intends to lodge a formal complaint “as quickly as possible” once the damage has been assessed for insurance purposes.

According to Piedade Monteiro, the pictures show the group approaching the establishment by car on the night of January 31 to February 1.

“What shocks us is the vandalism. They stole a gardening machine and a cap. Everything else was vandalized, especially the wooden doors which were destroyed as well as the material inside. It’s shocking,” he said.

The destroyed objects support agricultural activities aimed at users with Asperger’s syndrome, as well as auxiliary material for gardening and horticulture.

The main building of Casa Grande was not the target of vandalism.
