Rain and cold threaten Corsicans on Carnival Sunday

Rain threatens to halt carnival parades scheduled for the 11th on Sunday. Forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere indicate rainfall will be more intense on the northern coast. In the rest of the country there are signs that some are opening up, while in the south, especially the Algarve, rain is likely to fall less frequently.

The forecast is for the bad weather to begin on Thursday, with spells of rain that could last until Carnival Tuesday. Associated with precipitation, there are signs of a decrease in maximum temperatures, which will be more significant in the interior of the North.

On Carnival Sunday, the maximum forecast for Bragança and Guarda will be eight degrees. In Lisbon the figure will be 16 degrees, in Porto – 15, in Coimbra – 13 and in Faro – 17 degrees are expected. To play the North to South Carnival, an umbrella will definitely need to be built into your costume.

For many local authorities, staging Carnival represents an investment of several thousand euros, and parades may be limited due to weather conditions.

In the Lisbon area alone, the goal of attracting crowds to watch the Corsican parade in Torres Vedras, Loures, Sesimbra and Montijo costs approximately two million euros.
