Ventura stands in solidarity with the police and blames the government for instability in the sector

The leader of Chega, Andre Ventura, said this Sunday that he understands the police riot and holds the government responsible for the absence of football matches or for the fact that the elections were affected.

Andre Ventura spoke to journalists at the beginning of the riots in the streets of Seixal in the district of Setubal, reacting to an interview with the President of the National Police Union on SIC Notícias, in which he said that not only football matches are at risk, but also legislative elections could take place because that it is the police who transport the ballot boxes.

The Chegi leader said he believed that this would not happen, but placed full responsibility for the current tension in the security forces on the government.

“I don’t think that will happen. The security forces are the main stakeholders in bringing about political change, whether from the left or the right, that will solve these problems,” he said, saying he understood the “frustration and resentment of the police.”

According to Andre Ventura, the government performed a remarkable feat of governance, further increasing the feeling of “dissatisfaction, disappointment and resentment.”

“I understand the rebellion of these people, and if I were them I would do the same. I know this will cost me votes and support, but I have to say it because that’s how I feel. These men and women can’t take it anymore. “, he emphasized.

The Chegi leader also criticized the Minister of Internal Affairs, who this Sunday announced the notification of the Ministry of Prosecutor’s Office of all new signs of incitement to disobedience, its practice and possible links with extremist movements carried out by the police forces.

“These men and women feel trampled, humiliated and betrayed, and this Sunday they expected to hear the Home Secretary say that we are going to start negotiations, a round of negotiations or analysis. But no. What they heard were threats. participation in the Prosecutor’s Office and the Main Inspectorate of Internal Administration,” he said.

According to Andre Ventura, “the minister will not solve the problem with threats”, but rather by listening to movements and police unions and trying to find a solution so that the calm that the country needs can be achieved in the shortest possible time. during the election campaign.

“He decided to do the opposite, to enter into confrontation, threat, participation is a possible way,” he said, adding that Chega is on the side of the security forces, promising that his party will open a round of negotiations in order to be able to match the allowance allocated to the judicial police , with these police forces (PSP and GNR).

Regarding the rally that took place this Sunday in Seixal, Andre Ventura said that it is one of many rallies planned in the Setúbal area, an area that claims to be one of Chega’s priority fights and where he hopes to defeat the left and AD.
