Internal security ensures that lack of access to SEF databases does not jeopardize PJ’s investigation.

This Monday, the Internal Security System guaranteed that the criminal investigation of the SP was “not compromised” due to the lack of access to the databases of the disappeared SEF, but admitted that there were “structural problems inherited” from the former security service.

This reaction from the Internal Security System (ISS) came after the Union of Criminal Investigation Officers SP, which represents inspectors of the disappeared SEF, this Monday demanded direct access to the databases of the former security service, which is now managed by the new migration agency and the internal security system

The two organizations claim that Schengen and border control obligations are “adequately enforced” and that they are “working together and continuously to create a new architecture of programs and information systems with the aim of faster responsiveness to both security forces and services, as as well as migrant citizens.”

In the note, SSI and AIMA also state that a meeting was held this Monday in the internal security system between top managers of AIMA and SSI, and this meeting is part of “a system of regular and close coordination that has taken place.” since the inception of AIMA on October 29, 2023, to improve the government’s response to various needs.”

“SSI and AIMA maintain a constant dialogue with security forces and services to ensure the effective functioning of all structures responsible for integrated border management, criminal investigations and migration management,” they both said. structures.

In a note sent to Lusa, the union that represents inspectors of the disappeared Aliens and Borders Service and which currently works for the SP argues that judicial police specialists who investigate and combat human trafficking and illegal immigration should have direct access to the databases they worked with. in the previous service.

Only in this way, according to the union, will the PS be able to “more effectively combat networks of traffickers and exploiters, as well as free and protect victims of their criminal activities.”

After the closure of the SEF, in October last year, the databases were managed by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), regarding documentation for obtaining a residence permit and everything that serves as support for the issuance of residence documents. Immigrants, as well as the Border and Aliens Coordination Group, which operates under the direction of the Secretary General of Homeland Security and maintains police and border control databases.

The powers of the SEF were transferred to six authorities, with the police moving to the PSP, GNR and PJ, and the functions of administrative matters relating to foreign nationals being transferred to AIMA and the Institute of Registers and Notaries, as well as a division. created the Coordination of Borders and Foreigners.
