BE leader says the government is entangled in “scandals” and does not provide answers

Left Bloc leader Katarina Martins said on Wednesday that the vast majority of the PS, being “entangled in their own scandals”, are “unable to give explanations” and answers to the country’s problems.

“The absolute majority are entangled in their own scandals, in the indiscriminateness between business and politics, which is unable to give an explanation” about the contradictions that are associated with it, stressed the coordinator of the blockists.

Katharina Martins, who spoke to reporters during a demonstration of teachers in Évora, believes that, “given the cases”, the PS government is also “incapable of responding both to the country and to the teachers.”

Asked if the answers given by Minister João Gomes Cravinho in Parliament to the disputed cost overruns of the military hospital in Belém were sufficient, the BE leader said she understood that “there was no justification for any of the government’s cases.” .

“The rulers don’t remember anything until they remember, and this is an unstable situation in a democracy,” he stressed, stressing that “in the meantime, there is a school that needs answers and the country is in tension.”

For Katarina Martins, the vast majority of PS “promised stability” but what we are seeing is “brutal political incapacity”.

Accompanied by the leaders of the Bloco de Esquerda de Évora, the blockade coordinator “mingled” with the teachers in protest and watched the speeches of the union leaders on a small stage set up in the center of the Praça do Giraldo square in the city.

Speaking to reporters, the Bloc leader noted that the government “still does not recognize the complexity of school conditions, the organization of schools, salaries and careers of teachers.”

“We don’t have enough teachers in Portugal and the younger generation doesn’t want to teach because the conditions are bad,” he stressed, warning that unless “basic conditions” are created, there will be no future in the country, teachers in schools.

Recalling that teacher time counting is already recognized in the Azores and Madeira, Katarina Martins defended the same for “teachers across the country” as well as “travel support”.

“All other sectors have travel support, and only teachers have to pay for work,” he lamented, also pointing out the need for other measures related to assessment, career development and employment.

Teachers have been on strike since December 9 to demand better working conditions and wages, an end to instability, faster career advancement, and to protest the government’s proposals to review the recruitment and employment regime, which are being discussed with industry unions.
