Outgoing President of the Government of Madeira and leader of the regional PSD Miguel Albuquerque This Monday he admitted that resignation “could be the end” of his political life.
“This may be the end of my active political life, but I already had a very active political life,” the Madeiran said, adding that he would continue to work. “I’m very young,” he reminded reporters.
“I did everything to represent my people,” said Albuquerque, who served as regional government president for nearly a decade. Before taking this position, the politician was president of the Funchal City Council.
Albuquerque warned of the possibility of holding new elections in the autonomous region, which would only be possible in the summer. “The region will be left without a government and without a budget until the summer, we cannot play,” he recalled.
The outgoing president did not talk about his successor. “Name [proposto ao PSD] will be revealed at the appropriate time.”
The resignation has already been officially accepted by the representative of the republic and will be published this Monday and will take effect from that moment.
“I submitted my resignation to the representative of the republic, this statement was accepted, it will be published, and now the representative will have to listen to the political parties and then make a decision,” he said.
The Madeiran remains in office until a successor is named.
“I must provide day-to-day management until I am replaced. It’s not an emotional issue, it’s a matter of composure and decision making.”
