The mayor of the Porto City Council said this Thursday that the campaign for the March legislative elections is a good time to listen to the views of political parties on the reorganization of traffic on the Via de Cintura Interna (VCI).
“I think you should listen to the political parties, the political parties make so many promises and it would be good if there were commitments on this issue now,” independent Rui Moreira said on the sidelines of the Factory 2030 conference organized by the online newspaper » IVF in Porto.
The mayor reacted to the fact that the current government will transfer decisions on the reorganization of the movement in VKI to the next leader.
According to Rui Moreira, it is only natural that this issue will pass to the next government, since legislative elections will take place on March 10.
“I think at this point there is no point in asking the Secretary of State [de Estado das Infraestruturas] This solves the problem, especially because we were taking the risk that another secretary of state would come and do the opposite,” he said.
Saying that he would like the problem to be solved already, the mayor understands, however, that everything has its time.
The working group, created in 2020, proposed 27 measures in three thematic areas: toll management, infrastructure improvement and management.
The working group proposed scenario G, which included a reduction in tariffs at the last southern gateway of the A28, the introduction of a new gateway on the A28, south of the junction with the A41, and the removal of two existing gateways. on the western section of the A4 motorway and the introduction of a new portal between the A4 (east) and A3 (southern section).
On 22 January, the independent mayor demanded the implementation of measures to remove heavy vehicles from the VCI, agreed by the working group in 2020, holding the government and Matosinhos responsible for the failure to implement.
On the same day, the Matosinhos Chamber stated that structural changes in the region’s traffic scenario will only occur with the introduction of public transport.
However, the municipality, led by Luisa Salgueiro (PS), said it agreed with the so-called Scenario G, which prompted Rui Moreiro to inform the Secretary of State that, in his opinion, the conditions for moving forward with the project had been met, according to the Porto Canal.
On the same day, at the municipal assembly, the Aqui Há Porto! movement, which supports Rui Moreiro, also presented a proposal, which was approved, in which it called on the government to exempt, for a trial period of one year, tolls on the A41 motorway. CREPE.
The proposal also calls on the Under Secretary of State for Infrastructure to apply VCI toll rates “to all traffic flow through the intersection” except “that which begins and ends in the city of Porto.”
