Pope Francis warned this Sunday of the “leprosy of the soul” or “insensitivity to compassion” and the “progressive destruction of intolerance” during the canonization of the first Argentine saint before the country’s President Javier Miley.
This Sunday, Francis presided over the canonization of a laywoman known as “Mama Antula” in St. Peter’s Basilica and in his homily recalled the passage in which Jesus touched and healed a leper.
“Let’s not think that these are just things of the past. How many suffering people do we meet on the sidewalks of our cities? And how many fears, prejudices and contradictions, even among those who believe and profess themselves Christians, contribute to causing them even more harm. Besides, there is so much marginalization in these times, there are barriers that need to be broken down, leprosy that needs to be cured,” he said.
