The opposition condemned the Venezuelan government’s decision to suspend UN human rights advisory activities and warned the international community that the organization’s departure would leave Venezuelans defenseless.
“The dictatorship, investigated for crimes against humanity, has now expelled a UN office that is documenting our human rights situation on the ground (…) we warn the world about the vulnerability of political parties, human rights organizations and civil society given this situation,” – the Voluntad Popular (VP) party wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
Encontro Cidadao party chairwoman Delsa Solórzano warned that “the dictatorship does not want control by international organizations” in the country.
