17 parties and four coalitions will go to the polls on March 10.

Twenty-one political forces will vote in the legislative elections on March 10, with 17 parties and four coalitions on the ballot.

Among the candidates are eight parties that already have a seat in parliament: PS, PSD, Chega, IL, PCP, Bloco de Esquerda and the only deputies from PAN and Livre. Nine more squads are attempting to reach the half-cycle, some for the first time, others returning to the Assembly of the Republic.

Two parties that lost seats in parliament in the last elections are entering into coalitions: the SDS is part of the Democratic Alliance (AD) with the SDP and the PPM, and the Greens are uniting with the PKP in the CDU. The NPM is still going to vote alone in Madeira, where it will compete with the Madeira Primeira coalition, which unites only PSD and CDS.

The remaining ten parties have a little bit of everything, including two far-left forces (PCTP/MRPP and MAS) and the PTP, also left-wing.

On the right is the far right Erg-te! (formerly PNR), ADN (formerly PDR, founded by lawyer Marinho e Pinto) and Nova Direita, the only party to debut.

Four other forces are considered neither right nor left: Juntos pelo Povo, RIR (created by Vitorino Silva, known as “Tino de Rance”), Volt Portugal and Nós, Cidadãos!.

Finally, there is the Alternative 21 coalition, uniting the MPT and Alianza, the party founded by Pedro Santana López.
