The Prison Guards Movement planned a picket in front of the Lisbon Prison Establishment (EPL) on Thursday, vowing to continue with a “funeral march” to the Ministry of Justice, where they will place a coffin symbolizing the prison guard’s body.
The protest refers to the demand for equality with the addition to the mission that was entrusted to the Judicial Police (PJ) and which the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) have been demanding for more than a month. ).
“We want to know what is the difference with the mission allowance assigned to the SP? Do you know what the mission of the Prison Guard Corps is? Do you know anything more painful than working in a prison facility where there are no working conditions or staff? And will we demand that someone from the Ministry [da Justiça] give us the answer,” reads the manifesto, which Lusa had access to.
The initiative is scheduled for 2pm on Thursday and is being promoted by the non-union guards movement, despite the support of the National Union of Prison Guards (SNCGP). Professionals will deliver a coffin with a prison guard’s (CGP) symbol for a “CGP wake/funeral.”
Prison guards have held several protests in recent weeks, with the strike continuing until the 25th, in addition to a general strike planned for the 22nd called by the SNCGP.
