PS Azores says that the representative of the Republic contradicted what he decided in 2020

The vice-president of PS Açores said on Tuesday that the nomination of the leader of the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition, José Manuel Bolheiro, reveals a “very clear contradiction” of the representative of the Republic with what he decided in 2020. .

“What we defended in 2020 is exactly what we defend today. The same cannot be said about the representative of the Republic, who in his statement just made highlights a clear contradiction with what his position was in 2020, when the PS won the elections in a clear and unequivocal manner,” says Berto Messias in an audio recording sent to Lusa.

In 2020, the PS won the elections without an absolute majority, but the leader of the PSD/Azores, who formed a post-election coalition with the SDS-PP and the PPM and signed parliamentary protection agreements with Chega, was appointed president of the Regional Government and the IL, which guaranteed 29 of the 57 deputies of the Legislative assembly of the Azores.

A representative of the Republic explained on Tuesday that “unlike what happened in 2020, a post-election coalition was not formed” and “no agreement on parliamentary influence was signed to allow forces with greater representation in the Legislative Assembly to reach the threshold of 29 deputies “

In an audio recording sent to Luse, the Socialist leader states that the 2020 elections were won “also with a relative majority” and that the representative of the Republic “did not receive the same treatment” from the right-wing coalition.

The representative of the Republic of the Azores, Pedro Catarino, on Tuesday nominated the Azorean social democratic leader and leader of the PSD/CDU-PP/PPM coalition, Jose Manuel Boleiro, as president of the regional government, following the elections held on February 4.

The announcement was made by Pedro Catarino in Angra do Heroismo, on the island of Terceira, at the end of the second day of hearings for the parties holding seats in the new regional legislature.

The SDS/CDU-NP/NPM coalition won the regional elections without an absolute majority, with 43.56% of the votes, electing 26 of the 57 members of the Legislative Assembly, thus requiring three more to obtain an absolute majority.

The PS, which elected 23 deputies, and the BU, which elected one, have already announced that they will vote against the coalition government’s program.

Chega, which elected five deputies, made its vote dependent on the content of the document and the composition of the executive branch, while IL and PAN, which elected one deputy each, postponed their decision until they had read the document.
