Former Secretary General of the Socialist Party and current Prime Minister António Costa will attend the Congress of the European Socialist Party (PSE) in Rome from this Friday to Saturday, at which Commissioner Nicolas Schmit will be nominated as a candidate for the European elections.

At the Rome Congress, in addition to the goal of electing the current European Commissioner for Social Affairs, Nicolas Schmit, as the common candidate of the socialist and social democratic political family in the next European elections, the PSE election manifesto will also be approved.

According to PS, António Costa’s speech is scheduled for Saturday, after the official opening of the congress.

In addition to António Costa, speeches are scheduled at this congress by Stefan Löfven (President of PSE and former Prime Minister of Sweden), Pedro Sánchez (Leader of PSOE and President of the Government of Spain), German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frediksen.

From the list of speakers, the PS also highlights speeches that will be delivered by the Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolaku (leader of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament) and Ellie Schlein, leader of the Democratic Party of Italy.
