Chegi President André Ventura this Monday returned to defend the introduction of life imprisonment in the Criminal Code, believing that suspended sentences for suspects of crimes such as terrorism, rape or murder should be stopped.
In his speech during a lunch/rally in Santarem, President Chegi addressed the issue of security, noting that he had “failed so many times” and that the country had become an “open-air riot.”
Andre Ventura argued that crimes such as rape “will have no mercy” and that those convicted of committing them will “rot in prison.”
“Those who commit this kind of crime will remain in prison for life,” he said, without mentioning that this would involve a revision of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, which must be approved by two-thirds of deputies.
The Chegi leader also said that “those who come from abroad to commit such crimes will remain in prison as long as they have to, and when they are released, they will never set foot in this country again.”
In his election platform, Chega proposes to “introduce a sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of revision after serving part of the sentence”, as well as “to promote reform in the justice system in order to eliminate certain obstacles that prevent the approval of certain decisions.” sentences such as life imprisonment or the additional sanction of treatment to suppress libido.”
“For us terrorists, rapists, murderers, they never get out of prison again,” he said, also defending the abolition of “suspended sentences for committing crimes like this.”
“We create victim after victim unnecessarily, simply because we think these people, some of them, should have second and third chances,” he criticized.
Ventura also noted that he wants justice to “fight hard against criminals” and proposed to “make Portugal safe.”
“If we don’t do this, it may seem that we are humanitarians, but we are destroying the future of the country,” he said.
In his speech, President Chegi also touched on the topic of agriculture, which he had already touched upon in his election campaign for the March 10 legislative elections.
Andre Ventura once again spoke out against the “1226 taxes that currently exist on agriculture.”
“It is not surprising that our farmers are protesting. In fact, they should protest more because this is a state of thieves in its greatest expression,” he challenged.
“We take farmers and suck everything they have to give it to subsidized people and those who don’t want to do anything,” he accused and said the Portuguese are “useful idiots from PS and PSD” who have ” clients.” for supporting”.
André Ventura accused the PS and PSD of being “the great enemies of rural peace” and believed that “successive governments have bowed the knee to Brussels and allowed agriculture, fishing and rural peace to be destroyed.”
Regarding support for farmers, the Chegi leader said some are “still waiting for support during Covid-19 and during the drought.”
The leader of the list in Lisbon believes that the state “is failing them in everything, and the only thing they know is when they threaten to protest, try to boycott their protests and say they will support them with 400 or 500 million.”
“They didn’t support anything for eight years and now they want to give 400 and 500 million? That means you keep your word to the farmers and they will be happy with it,” he challenged.
Andre Ventura also criticized the “complexity, bureaucracy and confusion” of the application processes for European support and considered that “this is not accidental.”
“It has always been the PS line, promising but not delivering. We are going to do the opposite, we are going to cut the bureaucracy to obey the farmers,” he promised.
Earlier, the deputy and head of the list of Santarem, Pedro Frazan, asked for votes that would allow Chega to rise from one to four elected by this circle.
Pedro Frasan said that the other parties “don’t want to protect families.”
“They don’t want us to have the children we want, they want to replace our population with a massive influx of immigrants,” the lawmaker said, not endorsing the statement, resorting to the common theory of the great replacement. by far-right parties without any scientific evidence.
