Sintra: fifth key municipality for the 2024 legislative elections

Sintra And 5th Key Municipality legislative elections in 2024. 2nd with the largest permanent population in the country and 5th place more attractive to all parties with seats in parliament. More people voted in Sintra alone in 2022 than in 11 of all 20 districts individually in 2022. Sintra belongs to the district of Lisbon, the district in which the largest number of deputies are elected (they 48) and one that concentrates more key municipalities (they four including Oeiras, Cascais and Lisbon).

Total votes here in 2022 184 556 voters. That same year Sintra represented 15.62% all voters in the Lisbon district. In the last legislative elections in 2022 and in all key municipalities, the difference between the winning party in the municipality (PS) and the second-place party, the PSD, was most noticeable: more 43,000 wishes. This difference alone exceeded the total number of Luis Montenegro’s party voters in the municipality. Both milestones have already occurred in the 2019 elections.

It is a key municipality in which left-wing votes predominated in the legislative elections (since April 25 eleven leftist victories against five on the right), but demonstrating a completely different behavior of local authorities (from April 25 Seven victory of the right over six left). However, the current 2024 election battle will once again be about temperance. Of all the key municipalities this year, Sintra had the highest percentage of abstentions for the 2022 legislative elections: 42.81%. This is another reason for political investment in the final part of the campaign.

The party from which André Ventura belongs is the third political force in the municipality and, as in 2019, in the 2022 elections and in all key municipalities Sintra was the place where HE’S ARRIVING recorded the largest absolute number of votes. In Sintra, PS, Illinois, BE, CDU, POT This FOR FREE registered their second largest vote among all key municipalities.

Finally, in the last nine legislative elections since 1995, the municipality of Sintra has voted for Seven once the party was invited to form a government.

What are the key municipalities?

These are municipalities where a large number of voters are expected (more than 70 thousand) and where in the last nine electoral acts (legislative acts) there have been significant changes in the intention to vote for the party with the greatest expression in the municipal plan. These are the municipalities that can make the largest difference in the number of MPs elected from the party that wants to win the 2024 legislative elections. In practice, the party that wins the key municipalities has a high probability of winning the constituency and therefore winning a number of decisive mandates for these elections.
