The CNE ensures that every citizen’s vote “will be counted in the way they choose.”

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) on Tuesday assured that every voter’s vote in Sunday’s legislative elections “will be counted exactly as they chose”, recalling that in 50 years of democracy no election result has been disputed on a global scale.

“The CNE guarantees that every citizen’s vote is counted exactly as he wishes,” said a statement from the body charged with overseeing and supervising all registration and electoral operations in Portugal.

The commission justifies its position five days before the elections to elect 230 deputies of the Assembly of the Republic “by questions and comments made public regarding the work of polling stations.”

In this sense, the CNE stated that the polling stations are composed of citizens nominated by all parties or coalitions participating in the elections and that it intervenes whenever it becomes aware of situations in which pluralism in the composition of the tables is not guaranteed.

“Each candidate also has the right to appoint a delegate to oversee the work of the tables,” explained the commission, for which the Portuguese electoral system “is characterized by the wide participation of parties and citizens, which is the greatest guarantee of fairness and justice.” every election.”

“These characteristics are the main reason why, in 50 years of democracy, not a single election result has been disputed on a global scale. And, as far as one can assume, there is no known reason why things would be different today,” emphasizes CNE. .

On Monday, President Chegi called for the resignation of CNE spokesman Fernando Anastasio, saying he “lied to the Portuguese” by saying he had not received complaints about the possibility of distortion of the electoral process.

On Saturday evening, Andre Ventura said there was an attempt to “distort the results” of the election, which would entail “cancellation of votes” for his party.

On Sunday, Andre Ventura insisted on the suspicions, warning of the publication of an element that would be at the polling stations in Aveiro, and said on social networks that he was preparing to cancel the votes for Chegu.

BE condemned this “bad joke” and encouraged the member to ask to be relieved of the role he was about to fill, which occurred before Ventura filed the complaint. More than 10.8 million Portuguese are called to vote on Sunday to elect 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic.

18 political forces, 15 parties and three coalitions are competing in these elections.
