RIR appeals to those who have not yet decided to vote and “not fall into the mistake” of useful votes

RIR (React Include Reciclar) President Marcia Enriquez addressed on Tuesday the indecisive vote and that they “not fall into the mistake” of a useful vote, given that there should be more parties in the Assembly of the Republic. .

“Come again [à campanha] “scared” of useful votes, and I hope that people will not fall into this mistake, because now we have this experience: the useful vote in the PS gave us an absolute majority that ultimately did not work,” Marcia Enriquez told Lusa on Campus Justice in Lisbon.

Before being heard by the Department of Investigations and Prosecutions (DIAP), as part of the investigation launched on the complaint filed by the party when authorizing the felling of more than 1,800 cork oak trees in Sines, the President of the RIR considered it positive. that there are more parties in the Assembly of the Republic in order to “take a more difficult path”, but “more reliable for the future”, that is, “to discuss measures and solutions for the country.”

Considering itself a party at the center of the political spectrum, Marcia Henriques argued that the left-right dichotomy is “harmful” and “is also one of the reasons why there are so many undecided people.”

“I ask these people to take risks [no voto no RIR]because they will not regret it,” said Vitorino Silva’s successor (known as Tino de Rance) in the party leadership, expressing confidence that they will be able to achieve parliamentary representation in next Sunday’s legislative elections, or at least surpass 35 359 votes they received in 2019 (in 2022 they received 23,232 votes).

Asked how she assessed the major parties’ campaigns, Marcia Enriquez said they were “a little sidetracked” from the issues at hand, looking at them superficially.

“They don’t live our reality, and when I say “our,” I mean the average citizen who has a job, his own daily life, children in school, who has to go to a medical center or hospital. They do not experience this and therefore cannot identify the root of many problems and this is also a hindrance for our future because without being able to identify the problem, we cannot find the right solution,” he criticized.

Regarding the reason for her presence in the DIAP, Marcia Henriques explained that in August 2023, when the decision to authorize the felling of 1,821 cork oak trees in Sines for the installation of the EDP renewable energy project became known, the RIR asked the prosecutor: the General of the Republic, “to ensure that whether the project actually has a significant public benefit.”

“There are 1,800 trees here, and even if they are replanted, new cork oaks will only appear in 25 years. We believe that they cannot force an energy transition on us because the ecosystem must survive. “, there must be a balance, otherwise every day we will have solar panels all over the country and we will have nothing to breathe,” the head of the RIR emphasized.

More than 10.8 million Portuguese are called to vote on Sunday to elect 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic.

18 political forces, 15 parties and three coalitions are competing in these elections.
