Raymundo denies ‘red lines’ for agreement, but doesn’t write ‘blank checks’

This Thursday, the secretary general of the PKP rejected that there are red lines in a possible post-election agreement, but warned that he would reject “blank checks” and that agreements would depend on the content of the decisions.

Speaking to journalists during a rally in Barreiro, where he was supported by about 200 people, Paulo Raimundo confirmed the readiness of the Unitary Democratic Coalition (CDU, which unites PCP and PEV) for understanding, ensuring that “there is no intransigence.” and that “there are no red lines.”

“We are the most available to find solutions to solve people’s problems. We no longer issue blank checks. We are not asked for blank checks. Don’t ask for a general idea of ​​the form without ignoring the content. No, that doesn’t work with us. Now, to raise wages and pensions, to find solutions that will force banks to pay higher interest rates, to freeze rents, to fix food prices, the CDU is here for all of this,” he said.

The communist leader stressed his willingness to “put forward proposals and agree with proposals coming from others” and ruled out that in recent days he had freely criticized the PS, simply pointing the finger at socialist political options.

“We don’t talk bad about PS for the sake of talking. We criticize the political options of the PS, which have been well expressed over the past two years of absolute majority. And that’s what we dispute. We want and need more people coming together with the PKP to solve the problems of the people, no matter where they come from. And there will be many who, for one reason or another, one blackmail or another two years ago followed the PS in voting and who will return to the CDU , because they have already realized that this is where the solutions lie.”

Asked about the contacts he had with Social Democratic Party secretary general Pedro Nuno Santos or Bloc de Esquerda coordinator Mariana Mortagua, the CDU leader admitted that he had not spoken with his colleagues since February 26. was still in its infancy.

“The last time we spoke during a debate on the radio, we didn’t have the opportunity to speak anymore. I think we’re all too busy to talk about anything,” he said.

Once again emphasizing the feeling that the CDU is growing “with every day of the election campaign,” Paulo Raimundo assured that voters have already understood the reasons for the communists leaving the IPS in 2021, having failed the state budget, and that there will be no penalty in the elections for this situation.

“I would fail this budget again, with consequences that are already visible,” he noted, emphasizing: “Isn’t it clear that the big mistake was not that we voted against the state budget? Options? This is what needs to change, but this will only change with more CDU votes, because this is what will force the PS to offer the necessary solutions.”

In his speech at the end of the rally, the General Secretary of the PKP emphasized that communist activists cannot assume that everyone knows their proposals for the country, and made an appeal. “Let’s continue this ant campaign,” he concluded.
