On a street in Porto, the IL president decided not to go the way of the PS and PSD, who were also campaigning there, and took the opportunity to say that on Sunday the Portuguese must take the lead and decide the future of the country.
“We are approaching the final stretch where the Portuguese take the lead and decide what kind of country they want to have,” Rui Rocha told reporters after walking the streets of central Porto, where also PS and AD were at the end of the day.
The liberal leader chose a path different from the path of the socialists and social democrats, since “IL follows paths that others do not follow.”
And he added: “Only the Liberal Initiative offers truly different paths.”
He did not meet the relevant campaign delegations, but passed by a PSD activist who blamed herself for the AD flag she was carrying and who, hugging Rui Rocha, wished that “together [AD e IL] can change Portugal.”
“We have different paths and we really decided to take a different path and offer the Portuguese a different path with responsibility and a sense of mission,” he stressed.
Regarding the possibility of following AD’s path from Sunday, Rui Rocha said that “it will soon be seen.”
Accompanied by a small orchestra and to the sounds of “E o Porto é liberal”, the IL leader, surrounded by flags, heard a shop owner ask him to “change it”.
“That’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to change Portugal,” he retorted.
And changing the country is “really on the table” on Sunday, the IL president insisted, recalling that a “very important decision” is at stake.
The option, he reiterated, is to change the country to “more of the same or actually change the country, and the vote that changes the country is the vote for the Liberal Initiative.”
More than luck, Rui Rocha wants to vote on Sunday, recalling IL proposals to cut taxes, create a compensation circle, provide families with a child care check of 480 euros and provide a family doctor for pregnant women, children under nine years of age and pensioners over 65 years of age .
In addition, the IL President once again stated that it is necessary to reconcile the country with the youth, and “this can only be achieved through liberal policies.”
“At the moment we need to tell the young Portuguese that they can stay because they want to stay. And the Liberal Initiative is the party that wants them to stay,” he said.
Rui Rocha also said he wants to hold elections in several constituencies in Portugal and show the Portuguese “that it is possible to have another country.”
“Judging by what we see, we are very close to this goal,” he emphasized.
More than 10.8 million Portuguese are called to vote on Sunday to elect 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic.
18 political forces, 15 parties and three coalitions are participating in the elections.
