Andre Ventura calls for a vote: “The PS cannot become the successor of the PSD, to change it there must be Chega”

Chegi President André Ventura ended the election campaign this Friday with a final call to vote for his party, declaring that “the PS cannot replace the PSD.”

Speaking in Lisbon at the last campaign initiative for Sunday’s legislative elections, the Chegi leader said that “the two other candidates for the post of prime minister”, the leaders of the PS and PSD, “have spent this campaign discussing among themselves which of them is a worse politician than another”.

“These two, who now say they are alternatives to each other, are nothing more than the same currency that we have to fight with. The PS cannot become the successor of the SDP, to change it there must be Chega,” he defended himself.

Chega ended his election campaign in Lisbon this Friday with a rally in the Chiado district, which ended in Plaza Municipio with a concert by Quim Barreiros. The artist sang two songs to warm the audience even in bad weather. When the weather worsened, many demobilized, but returned to listen to Chega’s leader speak.

Faced with wind and heavy rain that soaked the stage and buffeted leader Chegi during his performance, Andre Ventura thanked those in attendance for their “resistance” and noted that even bad weather did not stop them from being there.

“If this weather doesn’t scare us, then next Sunday Chega voters will not stay home” and “will not give in to useful votes,” he said, once again setting his goal to win the election.

The Chegi leader used his time sharing the stage with Kim Barreiros to set the tone and say his leaders would be the “culinary masters of Portuguese politics” and said only the party he leads could “change” the country.

Ventura insisted that the PS and PSD belonged to the past and had “atrophied Portugal for many years”, countering that Chega was the “party of the future” and directly called on young people to vote: “Young people of Portugal on Sunday, leave your home and come back c Let the future be determined by you, not anyone else.”

“The time has come to determine your own destiny, and you do this in Portugal with only one weapon – the weapon of voting. It is with his help that we will silence the entire country next Sunday,” he emphasized.

The Chegi leader also believes that “there is a great danger for Portuguese democracy” that the PS and PSD “want to condition and silence” justice.

President Chegi stressed the importance of the Portuguese vote in these legislative elections and noted that his party will be “a concrete wall that will not allow them to move into obscenity and control of justice.”

“We will be a concrete wall of democracy, we will be a concrete wall of freedom and we will be a concrete wall against corruption,” he emphasized.

On the last street, Chegi’s delegation walked along Chiado shouting “Ventura, Ventura”; “Ventura, come on, you have your own people here”; “Enough is enough”; “victory, victory” and “the people don’t forget, it’s the PS’s fault,” with the usual party flags and scarves and Portugal flags, as well as umbrellas.

In a conversation with reporters, Kim Barreiros noted that he sang at the rally in Chege “because he was paid to be” there, and recalled that “since April 25” he had participated in the campaigns of various parties.

“Why should it be different? [por ser o Chega]?”, he asked, guaranteeing: “I accepted it [concerto] since I would accept another one from PCP or BE, anyone, I need them to pay me.”

Kim Barreiros said he did not mind criticism over his links to the party and Andre Ventura, and indicated that he had given Chege a “normal price”.
