In a response from BE headquarters to the “Forum Lisbon” this election night, Mariana Mortagua noted that “the situation is not yet entirely clear” in terms of mandates, but said that despite “this turn to the right” in Sunday’s elections, the party ” remained firm” and received “about 30 thousand votes”, continuing to work with the same five deputies.
“We will do exactly what we promised to do. We will be part of any solution that deprives the government of this right,” he assured.
According to the BE leader, who spoke before PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos, who admitted defeat, “if this solution to remove the right from the government is not possible,” there was a guarantee that the people on the left knew “in BE they will have the most militant opposition on the right.”
“We are the credible left, and we will be here every day, no matter what, no matter what, to create an alternative to the left in this country, to protect our country,” he promised.
At this moment, there was a lot of applause and shouting in support of the Left Bloc in the hall, and it was also repeated repeatedly: “April 25th always, fascism never again.”
During questions from reporters, when asked if she considered this BE result a defeat due to the lack of reinstated deputies, Mortagua replied that one of the goals of the blocs was growth.

BE retained its five existing deputies, electing two from Lisbon (Mariana Mortagua and Fabian Figueiredo), two from Porto (Marisa Matias and José Soeiro) and one from Setúbal (Joana Mortagua).
