The National Union of Civil Aviation Workers (SINTAC) announced on Tuesday advance notice of a strike at TAP to be announced between March 28 and July 30, according to a report ECO.
“Why have all the workers already received their due increases except the ground workers? We do not accept excuses coupled with lack of competence or internal capacity to carry out agreed/negotiated increases and require at least March payroll to be due. the career is now structured at +6% and +10% respectively to the base salary,” Sintac said in a statement.
The union accuses TAP of discriminating between “first-class and second-class workers” and has therefore decided to “give advance notice of a strike to all overtime workers from March 28, 2024 to July 30.”
The company’s new agreements had to be agreed upon by all unions representing company workers after the old ones were terminated so that temporary emergency agreements that allowed for government aid pay cuts could take effect. and a restructuring plan following the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the end of February, another union, Aviation and Airport Workers (Sitava), accused TAP of enforcing new company agreements that excluded ground staff, which it classified as an “irresponsible episode” that would leave a mark.
While Sitawa noted that this was not directed at sailing personnel or related trade union structures, he said his silence was “not easy to understand” at a time when some workers were “being subjected to terrible discrimination.”
The union also said it did not understand the company’s reasons for making the decision, which it said was humiliating in addition to being discriminatory.
“Why the hell does it require giant and complex computer parameterizations to apply new AE to ground personnel, but not so for maritime personnel? On the other hand, in addition to the enormous complexity of IT, we have now said that everything must be done manually and personally for each of the workers. In the end, where do we stay?” he asked.
In June, Sitava began negotiations to end the salary cuts and approve a new AE.
The union also expressed regret that TAP had “stabbed” workers and stressed that this “irresponsible episode” would leave deep scars.
