Sales of anxiolytics, sedatives and hypnotics fell last year

Sales of prescription drugs that, among other things, help people sleep, are falling and reached near pre-pandemic levels last year, with 270,000 fewer packages sold, according to Infarmed.

After rising in 2021, the second year of the pandemic, sales of drugs in the class of anxiolytics, sedatives and hypnotics began to fall in 2022, with a more pronounced decline in 2023, according to the National Medicines and Health Products Administration.

Informed data indicate that in 2019, 10,329,106 packages of these drugs were sold, which, in addition to sleep disorders, have indications such as anxiety and panic disorders.

Consumption fell slightly in the first year of the pandemic (10,233,236), but it increased again in 2021 with 10,742,611 packages sold.

Sales began to fall in 2022, with a more pronounced decline last year, with 10,397,863 cases sold.
