Amnesty law passed for those accused in the Catalan sovereignty process

The Spanish Congress of Deputies, with 178 votes in favor and 172 against, approved an amnesty law for those accused in the Catalan sovereignty process, the newspaper reported this Thursday. El Pais.

The rule now goes to the Senate, where it must be rejected by the People’s Party majority. It will then return to the Chamber of Deputies for final approval.

The Juntas for Catalonia party welcomed the adoption of the law. “A comprehensive amnesty that leaves no defender of independence unattended and that is immediately applicable,” he stressed. Deputy Josep Maria Cervera.

Socialist Patsy Lopez emphasized the goal of “ending the time of confrontation and ushering in a time of reconciliation and encounter.” Chairman of the People’s Party, Alberto Nunez Feijoo countered: “This is not reconciliation. This is submission.”

On Wednesday the Speaker of Parliament Catalan leader Pere Aragones announced early elections in the Spanish region on May 12. Nine months before the legislature adjourned, the separatist minority government failed to approve a budget proposal.
