The regional structure of the PCP in Évora called the reduction in the number of votes and the party’s percentage share in this year’s legislative elections compared to the 2022 elections in this Alentejo district a “negative development.”

In a statement, the Directorate of the Regional Organization of Évora (DOREV) of the PKP added that this “negative development” was “in line with the national results of the CDU.”

However, analyzing the results of the legislative elections on March 10, DOREV considered that the CDU vote in the country and in the district, “despite its own shortcomings,” was “an expression of resistance.”

This is because the party has faced, among other things, a “long regime characterized by hostility and belittlement” as well as the “continued falsification of the PKP’s positions in order to fuel anti-communist prejudice and narrow its space for growth”, he said.

In the constituency of Évora, which had 133,400 registered voters and elects three deputies to the Assembly of the Republic, the PS received the most votes in the legislative elections on March 10, but lost one of the two deputies to Chege, and the Democratic Alliance won a third term ( AD).

As in the 2022 legislative elections, the Socialists, although they lost more than 5,000 votes in this election, won in this circle with 32.79% (29,309 votes), followed by the AD formed by the PSD, CDS-PP. and the PPM with 22.43% (20,049 votes) and the Chega Party with 19.96% (17,846 votes).

With 1,723 fewer votes than in the 2022 election, the CDU was left with 10.93% (9,771 votes) and again failed to elect an MP, repeating what had already happened for the first time since 1976 in the previous legislation.

In the statement, DOREV also “aimed its batteries” at the political forces that have now elected deputies.

According to the communists, the elections of deputies to the PS and AD took place “in the context of a decrease in the electoral influence of the PS” and “the growth of the SDP/CDU.” [que ficou] less than they would like.”

And this vote of “many voters” for “forces that are objectively proud of some of the darkest pages of the history of our country and our region (…) does not mean a fundamental change in the socio-political composition of the district of Évora,” said.

According to DOREV, the results “primarily reflect the consequences of decades of the same policies carried out by the PS and SDP, forces that, despite repeated promises in every election, have not fulfilled their obligations.”

In the district of Évora, in these legislative elections, Luis Díaz (PS), Sonia Ramos (AD) and Ruy Cristina (Chega) were elected deputies.
