This Wednesday, the captain of the port of Funchal updated the warnings for rough seas and strong winds on the coast of Madeira, extending their validity until 18:00 Thursday.
This decision by the regional maritime authorities is based on the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) regarding the general weather situation (wind and sea) on the waterfront.
As for winds, it indicates that they will be from the north “very cool to strong at times, cool to very cool at dawn and in the morning” and visibility should be “good to moderate.”
On the northern coast the waves should reach 4.5 meters, and on the southern coast – about 1.5 meters.
Due to this meteorological situation, the captaincy insists on taking care of the maritime community and the general population “both when preparing to go to sea and when they are at sea or in coastal areas.”
Other recommendations include strengthening mooring and close monitoring of moored and anchored vessels, avoiding walking near the sea and open areas, and avoiding recreational fishing.
