ASAE confiscated more than seven tons of food in Aveiro and Viseu

The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) seized 7,370 kilograms of food from establishments located in the areas of Aveiro and Viseu due to poor storage conditions.

In a statement sent this Saturday to the Lusa agency, ASAE explains that it carried out inspections at two wholesale food preparation and storage establishments in the districts of Aveiro and Viseu.

This action, as part of the fight against illegal actions against public health, was developed by the Specialized Livestock Brigade of the Central Regional Office and is aimed at checking compliance with the conditions of storage and handling of food products.

As a result of the operation, 7,370 kilograms of food products were seized, namely yoghurts, cheeses, cold cuts and frozen fish products that require controlled temperatures.

The total value of the seizure was 61,500 euros.

ASAE also states that the activity was carried out without the appropriate mandatory authorization to obtain a veterinary control number (NCV), “still finding several food products without the relevant mandatory labeling being presented and without the identification mark of the last establishment that handled them being attached.”

Inspectors also opened two cases of administrative violations, “and the suspension of the activities of the enterprise located in the Aveiro area was also established due to the lack of an NCV required by law for the activity.”
