Chegi President André Ventura announced on Tuesday that he will ask PSD leader Luis Montenegro to hold a meeting regarding the impasse in the election of the President of the Assembly of the Republic and expects “mutual understanding” to approve the right-nominated candidate.
“Tonight I will ask again – although, frankly, I am beginning to think that I should not do this – I am going to ask Dr. Luis Montenegro again for a meeting at the time he wants, where he wants, at the PSD headquarters, in Chegi headquarters, so that by tomorrow noon there will be an understanding from the right and not from the left, so that we can win the candidacy of Francisco Assis,” he said.
The leader of Chegi spoke to reporters after parliament failed three times to elect the President of the Assembly of the Republic.
André Ventura accused the PSD of “constant arrogance towards this issue.”
“It has already been noted that both the PS and the SDP are balkanized in two situations, and we understand that this is easy to solve, which means there is an understanding about the candidate,” he said.
Deputies Francisco Assis and José Pedro Aguiar-Branco again failed in the elections for President of the Assembly of the Republic, as neither of them received the required absolute majority.
Socialist Francisco Assis received 90 votes, social democrat Aguiar-Branco 88, and whites 52 votes in the third failed attempt to elect the next President of the Assembly of the Republic.
Parliament will reconvene on Wednesday at 12:00 for a new vote for the presidency of the Assembly of the Republic after three failed attempts today, with nominations due until 11:00.
