The UOL website reports in Brazil that Dani Alves will return to the courtroom, now in his home country. A Brazilian player awaiting parole pending appeals in Spain after being sentenced in Barcelona to four-and-a-half years in prison for rape is accused of misappropriating a song written by two of the country’s composers.
The theme in question is called Avian, launched by the defense in 2020 as part of a UN campaign to combat disinformation during the Covid-19 pandemic. Giuliano Matheus and his son Thiago Matheus claim to be the authors of the song, which they presented to Dani Alves at a meeting in Italy in 2017.
In that meeting, the Brazilian defender showed interest in the world of music and even, according to the prosecution, suggested several verses, which were accepted by Giuliano. But commercial differences ultimately prevented the song’s release.
In 2020, Dani Alves released a video for the song as part of a UN project in which several Brazilian artists took part, leading to a legal complaint from the composers in 2021: “He fraudulently excluded the names of the true creators. In other words, the UN used a work of false authorship to campaign against fake news!” the two composers were accused.
