The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) this Sunday placed the areas of Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Braga on an orange warning, the second most severe on a scale of four, due to snow.
In the latest update, IPMA indicates that an orange warning for the three areas will be in effect from 9pm this Sunday until 9am Monday, noting that snowfall above that period is expected to be 800 metres, with accumulations above 1000 meters which could reach 15 centimeters. .
The IPMA warns of “moderate disturbance caused by snowfall with accumulation and possible ice formation,” including maintained or closed roads, damage to structures or trees, and disruption of local water supplies.
