The Central Committee of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) meets this Friday and Saturday in the city of Matola to discuss the “directive” on internal elections and reports on the activities of the Political Commission and the Control Committee.
President of the Republic and Frelimo Filipe Nyusi said on Wednesday that the Central Committee of Mozambique’s ruling party will “evaluate” the “directive” on internal elections in the organization, demanding “discipline” from the militants.
Speaking in the opening speech of the National Council meeting of the Mozambican Women’s Organization (MOW), Nyusi did not mention the process of electing Frelimo’s candidate for the October 9, 2024 presidential elections, which will be carried out by the current head of state. not present, can run because he has reached the constitutional limit of two terms in office.
Ruling party spokeswoman Lyudmila Maguni said on February 26 that the Central Committee would review the reports of the Political Commission and the Control Commission, adding that the issue of choosing a candidate for the October 9 presidential election “was not the topic of the meeting” of the Political Commission held that day.
On Thursday, Frelimo historical activist Oscar Monteiro demanded that the issue of Filipe Nyusi’s succession as a candidate for the presidency of the republic be included on the agenda of a meeting of the organization’s veterans.
“The elephant in this room (…) is continuity of power, we are late and risk winning [nas eleições gerais de outubro próximo]if we continue on this path,” said Oscar Monteiro.
The activist spoke directly to the President of the Republic and Frelimo at the beginning of a meeting of the National Council of the Association of National Liberation Fighters (ACLLIN), the political wing of the ruling party.
