Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa explained this Friday the refusal of the President to hand over the emails about the case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twins to the General Inspectorate of Medical Activities (IGAS).
“The president sent all the documentation to the deputy in December. The deputy considered it a judicial secret,” the head of state said.
He changed his position only after the intervention of the Commission on Access to Administrative Documents (CADA). “IGAS knew it needed access. For the same reason the request was requested in December, it was sent in January. CADA understood that there were no grounds to justify judicial secrecy,” he clarified.
Faced with questions from journalists about his son Nuno Rebelo de Souza, he sent them to himself. “He is 51 years old. He is older and vaccinated,” said the President of the Republic.
On Thursday, Chega announced his intention to propose the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the matter. “Two months before the European elections, I do not comment on the positions of the parties,” emphasized Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.
The twins visited irregularly The drug Zolgensma for spinal muscular atrophy, in June 2020, IGAS confirmed this Thursday. The treatment cost the state four million euros.
Intervention by the State Department of Health in scheduling the first visit may have given the twins a possible advantage in accessing SNS. IGAS will send a final report to the Ministry of Justice.
