The government has moved ahead with a review of bailiff careers as early as 2023

The government will review the careers of bailiffs in 2023, committing to do so also for social reintegration specialists in 2024 and forensic specialists in 2025, the Minister of Justice said this Wednesday.

“The government has planned a career review. In 2023, as we promised, we will review the careers of bailiffs, and in 2024 we will review the careers of professional social reintegration technicians. In 2025, we will redefine careers in legal medicine. We are doing this work gradually because people need to know what they can expect,” said Catarina Sarmento and Castro.

At hearings before the Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, the Minister repeatedly faced a shortage of staff among justice workers, whose main trade unions are even conducting or planning strikes, citing that the opening of an open competition for 200 vacancies was a “first step” and demonstrating her determination to make her career more attractive.
