The Home Secretary said this Friday that complementing the mission for the PSP and GNR is not the government’s only priority for the police, sending a response to negotiations that will begin on April 22.
“The priority is related to the commitment of this government. The priorities are everyone: we must have a modern, efficient police force and facilities that respect it,” Margarida Blasco told reporters at the end of a meeting with all PSP Trade Unions and GNR Associations.
The minister believes that the problems of the Public Security Police and the National Republican Guard “are not limited to mission subsidies.”
Without giving figures or whether the government would appoint an addition to the mission identical to that of the judicial police, Margarida Blasco said the negotiation process would begin on April 22.
“The negotiations will begin, we will see all the planned points,” he explained.
The assignment of an additional task to the police, identical to that which the previous government assigned to members of the judicial police, is the main demand of members of the PSP and the GPR, who staged several protests in the first two months of the year. .
When asked about the lack of clarity in the government program regarding the addition to the mission, referring only to career and promotion assessment, the Minister replied: “Career and promotion assessment includes [subsídio de missão] And all the rest. That’s why we need to agree on this.”
The new minister clarified that “everything else” is related to training, equipment and premises.
Regarding the protests by members of the PSP and GNR, the government official emphasized that “the police have their own agenda.”
“Now we are here to deliver what we promised and solve the problems,” he said, noting that the meeting was a presentation to all GNR associations and PSP unions.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), this first meeting was attended by a dozen representatives of trade unions and security forces associations.
In a statement issued following the meeting, the IAI indicated that by April 22 it would “review all issues discussed and inputs received and prepare a protocol and negotiation model to be proposed.”
The minister explained that the format of the next meetings will be “completely different” from what took place this Friday, given that this Friday’s meeting was attended by PSP trade unions, which do not have the right to negotiate, since they do not have the right to have a sufficient number of members according to the trade union PSP law.
The MAI statement also said that “the contribution of each individual will enable the prioritization of all issues raised, mainly related to career, condition of equipment and structures, and remuneration status, so as to collectively achieve a meritorious career and performance of official duties.” Functions of the Portuguese security forces.
In addition to the entire MAI team, the meeting was also attended by the Secretary of State for Public Administration, Marisa Garrido.
