Miguel Albuquerque wants to win the elections and does not impose “red lines”

The head of the PSD/Madeira list of presumptive regional candidates, Miguel Albuquerque, said this Monday that the goal is to win the elections and said that he will not draw “red lines” for any party unless it obtains an absolute majority.

“We are a party, as I already said, that conducts a dialogue with all political forces. And obviously our idea is to win, if we win with an absolute majority, we will win, if we win without an absolute majority, we will continue to win, and from now on we have a framework for dialogue with the parties,” he said. Miguel Albuquerque.

When asked whether he included Chega in this dialogue scenario, the Social Democrat replied that he did not set “red lines for any party,” emphasizing, however, that “at this moment” the party must “think about winning the elections.” .

The PSD/Madeira leader and outgoing regional government president spoke to reporters outside the Madeira County Judicial Court in Funchal after presenting the PSD list of candidates for the early regional legislative elections.

He prioritized continued economic growth in the region, preserving employment opportunities, strengthening social support components for the most vulnerable families, building more housing and completing the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR) and building a new hospital.

“Our campaign will be positive because it will make the people of Madeira and Porto Santos aware of the successes achieved and the need to continue the full development of Madeira in all sectors,” he stressed.

Miguel Albuquerque was also questioned about the news published today in the print edition of Correio da Manhã, which states that the judicial authorities froze 170 thousand euros from his wife, who tried to move this amount three days after searches carried out by the judicial police, as part of the process , in which he was recognized as a defendant.

The Social Democrat believed that the news would not harm the election campaign, saying that “people understand the frame of this news,” which “has no basis.”

“If this continues, I think that in a few years no one will hold political office because it will become very difficult. […] This news is often published by the opposition. We know how things go,” he said.

And he added: “My accounts have never been blocked, this is a lie, and I do not have an account for 170 thousand euros, this is also a lie.”

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, dissolved Madeira’s parliament and called early elections for May 26 after a political crisis caused by an investigation into alleged corruption in the archipelago.

The regional government, part of the PSD/SDS-PP coalition, with parliamentary support from the PAN, has been in power since early February. The head of the executive, Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque, asked to resign after being accused of blame in the trial and the PAN losing his political credibility.

In the last regional legislative elections, held on September 24 last year, the PSD/CDU-NP coalition elected 23 deputies, the PS received 11 mandates, the AKP five, Chega four, and the CDU, IL, PAN and BE elected one deputy each .

The PSD/CDU-PP coalition was one deputy short of an absolute majority and signed an agreement on parliamentary protection with the MHP, which was represented in the regional parliament by the only deputy Monica Freitas.
