The deputy Pedro Pinto will be a re-candidate for the post of leader of the parliamentary group of Chega, André Ventura announced this Monday, indicating that the deputies Pedro Pessanha, Manuela Tender and Bruno Nunez will preside over the parliamentary committees assigned to the party.
“We will retain deputy Pedro Pinto as chairman of the panel,” Chega’s president said in a statement to reporters while attending Sagalexpo, an event promoting Portuguese food exports, in Lisbon.
Andre Ventura noted that “there will be new vice presidents,” but postponed the announcement of these names until later.
Elections for the Chegi bench will be held on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Pedro Pinto, elected by the Faro circle, has led the Chegi bench since 2022, the year the party first formed a parliamentary group, electing 12 deputies.
In the previous legislature, deputies Rui Paulo Sousa and Bruno Nunez were vice-presidents of the Chega parliamentary group.
This Monday, President Chegi also announced that deputy Bruno Nunez will chair the local energy committee, deputy Manuela Tender (former PSD elected by Vila Real) will chair the education committee and deputy Pedro Pessanha will chair the defense committee.
Andre Ventura confirmed to journalists that the activity of the party’s page on the social network Facebook is limited for 10 years.
The Chegi leader considered the situation “particularly serious” and said that the party would “sue Meta” because it understands that “this is absolutely disproportionate, illegal, without any grounds and with very significant damage.”
“We are thinking about launching one of the largest actions against a technology company in Portugal and also, if this is supported, we will try to start a debate in parliament about the freedom of expression that should exist on these platforms,” he indicated.
Ventura also said he wanted to summon “Meta’s representatives in Portugal,” with whom the party is in contact, to “explain the reasons for this restriction.”
The Chega leader was then also asked about the political situation in the autonomous region of Madeira, where elections will be held on May 26, and he said: “I would be very disappointed if Chega/Madeira took any approach.” to the government of Miguel Albuquerque.”
“I hope that Chega will achieve a great result in Madeira, but PSD/Madeira will not count on Chega in the government,” assured Andre Ventura, pointing out that “the left will not be taken into account either.”
