On Tuesday, President Chegi spoke out against the government’s Stability Program (PE) for 2024-2028, acknowledged that he was moving forward by voting to reject the document, and invited the AD to seek understanding with the PS on this issue.
These positions were outlined by André Ventura in Parliament at a press conference, at which he also denounced the recent incident that occurred in the government in which former Social Democratic MP Patricia Dantas resigned as Joaquim’s deputy finance minister. Miranda Sarmento is accused of tax fraud.
According to Andre Ventura, the Stability Program that the government presented to parliament on Monday “is essentially the result of the work of the Socialist Party, and therefore Chega distances himself from it, since he has always criticized it.”
“This European Parliament contains the most necessary things – even despite forecasts for a decrease in the budget balance and economic growth – in relation to what the AD (Democratic Alliance) government itself had in its electoral program. Chega is distancing himself from the EP because it is a repository. Therefore, I hope that the AD will find its partner in the PS to vote on this program and will not wait for Chega’s vote,” he said.
Regarding the rejection vote already announced by the Bloc de Esquerda and the PCP in the European Parliament, represented by the government, Andre Ventura said that his party has not yet decided on its position regarding the two initiatives. And he admitted that Chega himself could also put forward a vote to abandon the Stability Program.
“Chega will not make the Stability Program viable, Chega rejects it. Therefore, it is basic common sense that the AD seeks to reach an understanding with the PS. I hope that next week it will not be created in the Assembly. The Republic is in a new deadlock,” he warned.
