The Ministry of Education’s new team will this Thursday begin meetings with teachers’ unions to discuss the restoration of hours worked frozen during the Troika era (2011-2014), a demand that has motivated protests and strikes in recent years.
The Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, receives this Thursday 10 trade union structures representing teachers. This is the first negotiation meeting of the new team.
Last week, the minister reaffirmed commitments made before the March 10 elections, promising to return five years of service, or 20% annually of the six years, six months and 23 days frozen during the Troika period. .
In response, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) has already rejected the proposal for guardianship, demanding a faster recovery, implemented in just three years (33% per year) and with guarantees that at the end of the process all teachers will recover. their nine years, four months and two days is the total time their careers have been frozen – regardless of whether they were active or retired.
In his first speech in parliament, the minister considered it “urgent to find a response to the fair demands of teachers,” emphasizing that the instability observed in schools “must be quickly overcome.”
The first meeting with trade union organizations will mark the beginning of negotiations on one of the main demands of teachers.
In addition to the minister, the event will also be attended by Undersecretary of State for Education Alexandre Homem Cristo, Secretary of State for Governance and Educational Innovation Pedro Dantas da Cunha and Secretary of State for Public Administration Marisa Garrido. meetings.
This Thursday morning will bring together ASPL – Association of Licensed Professors, FENEI – National Federation of Education and Research, FEPECI – Portuguese Federation of Professionals in Education, Teaching, Culture and Research, Pró-Ordem dos Professores and SEPLEU. On Friday it will be the turn of the ministry team to welcome the National Federation of Education and Fenprof.
Fenprof will use the meeting to present a record of negotiations with other proposals related to, for example, filling vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels, incentivizing teacher retention and deducting IRS expenses.
