PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos said this Wednesday that the minimum that can be demanded regarding Operation Man of Influence is “explanations and clarifications to the Portuguese people” since “there are no questions in this process, but there have been consequences.”
“As time goes on, at least it seems that there is no business in this process, but there were consequences. And those consequences are serious,” he said.
Pedro Nuno Santos added that “democracy is at stake” because the country had an absolute majority government and no longer has.
“No one is above scrutiny. No one is above criticism. And no one is exempt from the need to provide explanations on issues so important to the democratic life of the country,” he concluded.
This reaction from the Secretary General of the PS came a day after the announcement of the decision of the Lisbon Court of Appeal, which rejected the appeal of the prosecutor’s office in the process of Operation Influencer, reduced the measures of coercion of the accused to the conditions of person and residence and realized that there were no signs of a crime.
The work of the previous legislature was interrupted after the resignation of António Costa, after it was revealed that he was the subject of an investigation launched into the parliament by the Supreme Court after a certificate of Operation Influential Man was extracted from a criminal case.
