The list of PS candidates for the European Parliament includes deputies elected by the March legislatures and current mayors.
Former Health Minister Marta Temido, elected by Lisbon to the legislature, heads the Socialist list. European numbers two and three, Francisco Assis and Ana Catarina Mendes, respectively, topped the lists in Porto and Setúbal in March.
The President of the Chamber of Amadora and the Lisbon Metropolitan Council, Carta Tavares, the sixth name among the Socialists, has already suspended her mandate in the municipality. Serving her third term as President of the Chamber of Portimão, Isilda Gomes is ranked seventh on the list.
The ninth candidate for the European Parliament is Miguel Lemos, administrator of Aguas de Gaia. In 2022, the current Secretary General of the PS – at that time Minister of Infrastructure – Pedro Nuno Santos chose him Chairman of the Port Authority of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo. However, Pedro Nuno Santos’s successor in the government, João Galamba, chose to appoint João Neves to this position.
Former Socialist MPs Joana Sa Pereira and Pedro do Carmo are tenth and eleventh on the list. The former stood for Aveiro and the latter for Beja in the legislative elections, but both were not elected to the Assembly of the Republic.
In Portugal, elections to the European Parliament will be held on June 9.
